Ephesians 4:25, “Therefore each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully to your neighbor, for we are all members of one body.”

Think

We’ve all heard that communication is key to a successful relationship. For a husband and wife’s relationship to fire on all cylinders, each has to be willing to have a running dialogue and openly talk about the issues they face, the struggles they encounter, and the successes they experience every day. But it’s not just about communicating regularly with one another, because a lot of communication can be surface level and trivial. Rather, the communication that leads to a win is done truthfully!

Speaking the truth doesn’t mean just blurting out whatever is on your mind all the time. But it does mean that you are willing to discuss the real issues you face without covering them up. Conflict in marriage doesn’t get resolved by sweeping it under the rug. It is resolved by having open and honest communication. Are you willing to have those open discussions with your spouse? Open those lines of truthful communication and begin to experience a marital win streak like never before!

Pray

Dear Lord, thank You for the gift of marriage. As I begin my day, I pray that You will help me to understand the priority of truthful communication with my spouse so that our relationship can grow stronger and ultimately bring You glory. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.

Act

Genuine communication requires genuine connection. Commit to spending 15 minutes a day with your spouse to simply talk with one another. Make this a time with no distractions – no phone, no television, no kids. If you aren’t married yet, make the commitment to spend this time with God. You’ll be amazed what this focused communication can lead to!
