Daniel 6:10, “Now when Daniel learned that the decree had been published, he went home to his upstairs room where the windows opened toward Jerusalem. Three times a day he got down on his knees and prayed, giving thanks to his God, just as he had done before.”
Matthew 6:34, “Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”
Life is busy, and our schedules are constantly full. Worry sets in when we can’t seem to get everything done, and today’s troubles spill over into tomorrow, next week, next month, or next year. But a life of worry is not the life God intended for us. He wants us to remain focused on what He has for us right here and now. Does this mean we shouldn’t plan for the future? No. It simply means we should take each day in sushi-size chunks.
Daniel was busy, yet he took each day in sushi-size chunks. Routinely, he focused on God in prayer three times a day. It wasn’t because he didn’t see the danger of disobeying Darius’ decree. It was because of his resolve to involve God in his day, every day, no matter the situation or circumstance.
It’s been said, “Worrying doesn’t rob tomorrow of its sorrow, it robs today of its strength.” If we know God, we trust in Him to provide for our every need. If He took care of us yesterday, and He’s providing for us today, we can have faith that He will do the same tomorrow. Like Daniel, look at your life in sushi-size chunks. Don’t waste time worrying about tomorrow. Instead, focus on what God wants you to do today!
Father God, thank You for Your power and wisdom in my life. Help me to be disciplined like Daniel and always seek You first in everything I do. I’m grateful to have a God who provides for my needs each and every day without fail. In Christ’s name I pray, Amen.
Discipline starts with action, and a great way to set up each day for success is to take it in sushi-size chunks. Set up a reminder on your phone, and pray three times a day for the next seven days. You’ll be amazed by how aware you become of all the opportunities you have to be used by God.
